The sun is shining, the fields are full of wildflowers and its summertime once again! Which means that parents across the county are looking for fun, interesting and educational activities to keep the little ones busy over the school summer holidays. If you're looking for things to do for summer 2019, there are plenty of family-friendly options taking place across Wiltshire. From hot air balloon rides to water sports, we've got you covered...
Animal Activities
Kids love meeting animals, and there are plenty of opportunities to do so this summer in Wiltshire. Head to the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover where kids can meet birds of prey, watch fantastic flying displays and take part in activities like pond dipping and tractor rides.
Or why not visit one of our local farms where you can pet and feed a whole range of furry and feathered friends. At Cholderton Charlie’s Rare Breeds Farm near Salisbury, you can meet, feed, cuddle and pet lots of animals including rabbits, donkeys, ponies and goats. Meanwhile, Roves Farm near Swindon are offering special school holiday events throughout the summer, including tractor ride farm safaris, a bear hunt and an adventure through an enchanted forest. Children can also meet the animals, spot the scarecrows and even help to collect eggs!
A visit to Longleat Safari Park is always a great summer holiday day out for the whole family. There are six and a half miles of drive-through experience where you can get up-close to giraffes, monkeys, rhino, tigers and more. What's more, Longleat will be hosting a special Australian Summer event from 20 July 2019, celebrating all things Aussie in honour of the park's new resident Koalas. There will be an indoor beach, surf-style wobble boards, a giant colouring wall and impressive live performances.
Outdoor Adventures
Want to take the kids on a real adventure? Spend time together as a family out in the fresh air while trying something new and learning new skills. Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team offer a huge range of exciting outdoors activities for you to take part in including climbing, raft building, archery, bush craft and abseiling! There will be sessions running for adults and children aged 7+ on virtually every day of the school summer holidays.
Or take to the water at Cotswold Water Park near Cirencester, the perfect location to cool off in the water on those hot summer days. Here you can try your hand at stand up paddleboarding, kayaking and other watersports. If you prefer to stay on solid ground, there are also opportunities to try out activities like archery, bush skills and horseriding at the Park.
For something a bit different, take to the skies with Aerosaurus Balloons. Children aged 7 or over can take part in the balloon flights, experiencing the exciting flight up into the air and the peaceful trip floating above the pictureque Wiltshire countryside. Get your tickets here.
Summer School
The summer holidays are a great opportunity for children to try new hobbies and activities. Marlborough College Summer School caters for students from 3 years old with a packed programme of activities covering art and crafts, music, sports and outdoor adventures. Younger children can enroll on a week of exciting mixed activities, while older children can sign up for a course focused on one or two particular activities, such as fencing, mosaics, dance, tennis or drama.

Take the whole family to Bowood House & Gardens on 27 July for their Summer Garden Party.
