Get close to nature

Many of our Wiltshire Farm Stay properties are located within National Landscapes. In Wiltshire, we are lucky enough to have three of these National Landscapes: The Cotswolds, Cranborne Chase and the West Wiltshire Downs and the North Wessex Downs offering you a great opportunity for staying in secluded parts of the county, away from the hustle and bustle of the cities and where the rural locations lend themselves to dark skies at night, perfect for a spot of stargazing!

Some of our Wiltshire Farm Stay properties remain as active farms with agriculture or livestock fields, whereas others are simply situated in rural farm locations.

If you get the chance then you may get the opportunity to help out on the farm (if you wish to) or to feed the animals whether that is helping collect the freshly laid eggs from the hen houses or feeding some of the livestock, just ask the provider at the time of booking.

Look out for farm tours that are on offer. For example, Church Farm Country Cottages, near Bradford on Avon, runs guided lambing tours during the spring months where guests can take part in bottle feeding lambs and learn more about how the farm runs. The owners of Buttle Farm, near Calne will also happily show you around their free range pig farm and can explain about the different types of rare breed pig they have, and the importance of the slow food movement.

Locally produced breakfasts

Farm Stay Bed and Breakfasts are renowned for offering hearty breakfasts, with local produce a priority. Enjoy sampling the freshly laid eggs, sizzling bacon, homemade jams and marmalades.

Farm accommodation offering self-catering or glamping options

With converted barns, former stables and cottages converted from former farm buildings, there is a variety of self-catering options available on a farm stay too.

Ideal for active countryside breaks

Given that many of the properties are located in rural settings there are ample opportunities for walking, cycling and simply exploring the local area and many offer beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. Farm stay providers are often happy to share their top tips on local walks, cycling routes and many offer facilities for the active visitor, from maps to borrow through to areas to dry off your muddy boots or store your bicycles.
