About
Critically-acclaimed soprano Susanna MacRae and prize-winning pianist Claire Habbershaw have been performing together since 2022. In this short time, they have quickly become prominent figures in the world of art song, dedicating themselves to championing contemporary composers and exploring innovative ways of presenting their recitals. Both Susanna and Claire are committed to supporting young and established British composers, regularly featuring works by Ian Venables, Hollie Harding, Julian Philips, and Alexander Ling in their performances.
Their recital, "Words of Women," showcases a compelling blend of music and spoken text. The programme interweaves dramatic poetry readings, prose, and letters with music, offering audiences a unique storytelling experience.
Highlights include a contemporary setting of suffragette poetry, alongside settings of poetry and letters by Emily Dickinson, Emily Brontë, Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, and Christina Rossetti, with readings of Rossetti's evocative poetry adding to the atmosphere of the performance.
