About
Singer-songwriter Will Lawton weaves a tapestry of live piano with a supple and distinctive voice that speaks of love and loss, truth and lies, the whole spectrum of this painful, yet magical existence we call life. He draws inspiration from singer-songwriters including Ray Lamontange, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Nick Drake and Ben Harper. Will has been slowly growing his band of 'Alchemists' since 2015 when he started playing with the mesmerising drummer, Weasel Howlett. In 2017 they released their critically acclaimed debut album 'Fossils of the Mind' and from there began expanding the musical collaboration. The band have grown to include the colourful Buddy Fonzarelli on upright bass, the ethereal voice and guitar work of Ami Kaelyn and the explosive tabla beats of Harki Popli. The Wiltshire-based musicians deliver a refreshing, fascinating and exciting sound that fearlessly dips its foot pedals into folk, jazz, drum and bass with a smattering of indie.
In 2020, Will Lawton and the Alchemists released a part-live album in front of a small, intimate audience in the library of Abbey House in Malmesbury. Whilst radio play on several local BBC radio stations, BBC Airwaves Festival and BBC Introducing has helped given exposure to this new music, it is only now, post-lockdown that audiences are able to fully appreciate the beauty and magical quality of this 'impossible to pigeon-hole' new music.
