About
Bradford on Avon Choral Society's Christmas concert this year, once again performed during Holy Trinity's dazzling Christmas Tree festival, features two joyous pieces; Vivaldi's ever-popular "Gloria" and Pergolesi's "Magnificat".
Although there has been some debate as to whether Pergolesi or his tutor Durante wrote "Magnificat", it is hard to disagree with Harry Bradford's description of the piece as: "Combining a joyful sense of buoyancy with sumptuous melodic lines in a similar manner to Vivaldi's "Gloria". This concert, with both of these works being performed, promises to be an uplifting experience.
The programme also features works played by an instrumental ensemble, and soloists, with a treble performing the beautiful "Walking in the Air"
The choir, under the expert guidance of their Musical Director Alan Burgess, has given acclaimed performances in various local venues including The Wiltshire Music Centre, ( where they will return next June to give a performance of Handel's "Israel in Egypt") Although an amateur choir, they have achieved a high standard and give a polished and accomplished performance of both the Vivaldi and Pergolesi, and of a selection of carols old and new. Among these will be familiar favourites for audience participation, and, for inner warmth, mulled wine will be on offer (for a donation), all providing a glorious start to the festive season.
