You're cordially invited by the Trowbridge Town Council to join us at The Civic as we honour the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.
On June 6th, 1944, D-Day marked the largest Naval, Air, and Land operation in history. It summoned forth countless courageous individuals who parted from their families, uncertain of their return, a sacrifice we hope remains unparalleled.
The heroism displayed by those who stormed the Normandy beaches served as a beacon of hope during one of humanity's darkest times. It's only fitting that our community participates in the global tribute. On June 6th, 2024, we will illuminate our beacon in homage to the light of peace forged amidst the shadows of that harrowing campaign, a light many did not live to see.
We stand in solidarity, commencing the event with a gathering at the memorial in Trowbridge Park where the Royal British Legion will lay a wreath. Following this, there will be a procession to The Civic with a proclamation delivered by the Town Crier from 8pm onwards. At 9:15pm, we'll join in the international lighting of beacons and lamp lights of peace. Feel free to bring a torch or use your phone to contribute. Throughout the evening, additional tributes will be paid, including a reading of a poignant poem by the Mayor.
