The Stones Hotel, Salisbury

The location of The Stones Hotel, Salisbury sits atop a historically significant site which was formally home to an aerodrome; prior to modern navigation systems available to pilots today it was a landmark for the earliest aviators to guide them by sight to/from the continent and ‘London Airport’ as it was known then, today Biggen Hill.

During the Second World War the site was home to another aeronautical achievement the birth of the Secret Spitfire Society with the construction of almost 2,500 Spitfires in total secrecy. A plaque commemorating this secret workforce made up exclusively of woman adorns the walls of the now hotel with a vista looking across the landscape and onto Boscombe Down.

Acquired in the last quarter of 2022, The Stones enjoyed an extensive refurbishment programme with a £1M investment on the development of new event spaces and the refurbishment of existing ones including one of the largest meetings and events spaces, Solstice Suite in the greater Salisbury area. With capabilities to host meetings from two to four hundred delegates this space has in its lifetime been a gymnasium and nightclub.

Bedrooms at The Stones Hotel

The investment hasn’t stop there, every bedroom of this forty-four-room hotel across four room types has had an extensive refurbishment with new ergo-dynamic mattresses fitted to the beds, new soft and hardwood furnishing plus increased number of socket points around the rooms. Other developments include the introduction of a new breakfast buffet concept and a splash of colour to the restaurant and lounge.

During the spring and summer months make the use of the hotels front and rear terraces, sampling the local ales and English sparkling wines which share the same namesake to the stone at Stonehenge and meeting spaces at the hotel. We’re also committed to sustainability using eco-friendly and renewable resources; we even draw and bottle our own water from the water table beneath the hotel.
