Jenny Salisbury Museum

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role

I’m Jenny, and I am the Marketing and Membership Officer at The Salisbury Museum. I have been in this role since last year, prior to that I was involved with the Fashioning Our World project at the museum, whilst working to complete my Masters studies in Curating, Collections and Heritage.

What do you like best about your role?

I really enjoy being able to utilise my creativity when coming up with social media campaigns and marketing assets. I also love that no two days are ever the same, there is always a slight element of the unexpected when you work in a museum!

Avebury Stone Circle

Where are your favourite places to visit in Wiltshire and why?

Of course I am going to mention the museum! Indeed, the museum is the whole reason that I decided to move to Wiltshire, and now that our redevelopment project is complete, we have some fantastic galleries, objects and stories of the unexpected every day to share with our visitors.

Additionally, I really like Avebury as it has a wonderful atmosphere about it, and I enjoy visiting Devizes whenever I get the chance as it has some lovely architecture and is well worth a look around.

Do you have any hidden Wiltshire gems that you’d like to share with our readers?

J.A.M.S Interiors on Winchester Street in Salisbury has some fabulously quirky artworks and interiors (I recently got an amazing smiley neon lamp from there!)

Last year I stumbled upon the fabulously eccentric Crop Circle Visitor Centre and Exhibition in Pewsey, which was not only interesting, but also located in a beautiful setting.

Salisbury Close

Where’s your favourite Wiltshire picnic spot?

I have to say the museum café! It’s perfectly central yet serene, and the surrounding area of the Close is beautiful – each day I find something new to marvel at.

Where are your favourite places to eat out in Wiltshire and why?

I’m more of a coffee person than going out for dinner, as such, I really recommend Sonder for great coffee, friendly staff and the perfect place to do a spot of people watching being right on the high street. Culture Coffee on Fisherton Street does a great cooked vegetarian breakfast, and the décor in there is lovely too. And of course – our museum café does fantastic coffee and cake!
