Vale of Pewsey
Experience the breath-taking views and freedom the Vale of Pewsey as you explore the many walking routes across this historic landscape. Here you will find quintessential England, beautiful countryside peppered with villages at the heart of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape. You can also find 2 of Wiltshire’s famous White Horses here, the Pewsey and Alton Barnes Horses, as well as Wilton Windmill and Crofton Beam Engines along the Kennet and Avon Canal!
The Ridgeway
Stretching a total of 87 miles, The Ridgeway is a national trail and is commonly known as Britain’s oldest road, having been travelled on for over 5000 years! Starting in Wiltshire, The Ridgeway follows along chalk hills northeast from Avebury, through North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and to the northwest of London. Embark on a self-guided walk this May and expect to see wide open views of rolling downland, surrounding archaeological monuments and forts as well as one of Wiltshire’s famous White Horses at Hackpen Hill!
Historical Walks
Bratton and Westbury White Horse Circular Walk
Beginning in the village of Bratton, this enjoyable and undulating walk, takes in fabulous views from the northern aspect of the Imber Range Perimeter Path, with an exciting chance to get close to the famous Westbury White Horse, one out of 8 in Wiltshire! From the superb vantage point at the Horse, Cherhill and Alton Barnes Horses can also be seen in the distance on a clear day.
Stonehenge
Available for small groups of up to 6, Oldbury Tours provide bespoke guided tours of prehistoric Wiltshire including Stonehenge and Avebury. Bowood House – Woodland Gardens
Open for the Spring season is Bowood’s Woodland Gardens, a separate attraction on the estate showcasing a wonderful display of colourful flowers across 30-acres. Walk amongst an oasis of bluebells, azaleas, and rhododendrons as you soak up the sun this month.
Bowood House – Walled Garden Tours
If you are a keen gardener, Bowood also offers unique tours of their Private Walled Gardens. Walk along with the Head Gardener as you learn all about the thriving flowers including the incredible Osmanthus Burkwoodil, which was planted by Sir Harold Hillier over 40 years ago and is now over 18 feet high!
Westonbirt – Spring Family Trail
This month, head just outside the Wiltshire borders to Westonbirt, and celebrate their wildlife superheroes with a fun family trail through its iconic Silk Wood forest. Discover plenty of activities as you walk through woodland pathways, offering the perfect blend of adventure, education, and relaxation this month!
