Wiltshire is filled with sweeping hills, glowing countryside views and peaceful forest pathways. With Autumn almost upon us, expect to see fiery coloured trees and golden fields; making for the perfect photography moment! Here are our top locations to visit in Wiltshire this Autumn…

Stourhead National Trust Gardens

The National Trust’s gardens at Stourhead are located on the Wiltshire-Somerset border. Known for its spectacular display of Autumn colours, this site offers breath-taking views across its 18th century landscape garden. Reflected in the central lake, be sure to capture the deep red and golden scenes whilst enjoying cosy walks and discovering classical temples and hidden passageways throughout the grounds.

Savernake Forest

Located south east of Marlborough is the Savernake Forest; a Special Site of Scientific Interest and a great destination for Autumn lovers! Managed by the Forestry Commission, this forest has been well-kept with many veteran trees showing off their colours with red, brown and orange leaves. Covering 2,750 acres, there’s plenty of photo opportunities!

Langford Lakes

Capture the rich autumn sun reflecting at Langford Lakes this Autumn. Owned by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, this reserve is made up of beautiful meadows and three lakes; creating a peaceful location for relaxing and great for bird-watching too!

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum

Take a short pitstop out of Wiltshire to the Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire. This incredible tree garden offers a huge display with blazes of colours during the Autumn months. With up to 5 miles of walking to cover at your own pace, be sure to discover everything this Arboretum has to offer when you’re next nearby!

Bowood House and Gardens

Bowood is the magnificent family home of the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne. The pleasure grounds cover approximately 100 acres, with formal gardens and terraces around the house; the building itself is set in the middle of Capability’ Brown’s grade 1 park. The gardens which form part of the parks 1760 design, contains an outstanding collection of trees and shrubs, all flourishing in rich colours during the Autumn months! Enjoy a picnic or relaxing walk through the grounds, capturing the vibrant glow of this wonderful season.

Lydiard Park

Located in North Wiltshire, Lydiard Park is a stunning place to visit during Autumn. As the ancestral home of the Viscounts of Bolingbroke, these grounds offer plenty of history with the Palladian House and beautiful parkland amongst some of the striking remains from a great country estate.     Wiltshire scenery is beautiful in Autumn, with the leaves changing colour and the light fading at dusk. There are so many stunning locations to photograph here and I have been lucky enough to photograph some of them over the past few weeks. The first image was taken at a local nature reserve in Chippenham. The sun was sinking towards the horizon as I photographed this scene, which was made all the more dramatic by the fact that there were only a few people around! The second image was taken at Stokenchurch on a very windy day. The setting sun made for some unusual reflections in the river and also added some extra drama to this scene.

    I have been to Wiltshire many times and love it there. The landscape is very flat, but with lots of greenery. I find this makes for good picture taking.
