Tell us a bit about yourself and your role

My name is Janet and I first came to Corsham in 2002 to work in the bookshop before I taking it over in 2008.   I am the proprietor of The Corsham Bookshop having worked for many years off and on for Waterstones alongside a parallel sailing career (a strange combination!) The bare bones of the job is choosing the right books, displaying them attractively and matching the right book with each customer.  But there is far more to it than that but there really isn't the space to bore you with the details!

What do you like best about your role?

Probably my favourite part of the job is the people, the people I work with, the authors, the publishers and the customers.  I often find myself having quite in-depth conversations way beyond the subject of books. 

Where are your favourite places to visit in Wiltshire and why?

I love Devizes the old Wiltshire capital especially on Thursday market day.  It's a proper market with lots to look at and some fantastic bargains.  The Devizes architecture is very interesting and on market day it has a little bit of a continental feel.

Do you have any hidden Wiltshire gems that you’d like to share with our readers?

I seem to be drawn to the vale of Pewsey -  maybe because my father was brought up at Urchfont? The Lawrence whistler engravings on the church windows  at Alton Barnes are properly secret- you could easily miss them if you weren't looking for them but they are absolutely charming when you find them.

Where are your favourite places to eat out in Wiltshire and why?

I almost never eat out as my husband says the food's better at home - which is crafty as it sounds like a compliment although I suspect the real reason is he is too mean to pay for meals out!!  However if ever I forget to bring my lunch the salads from Woody's Deli opposite my shop are absolutely lush.
