As we all know, Wiltshire, like the rest of the country, has been hit by a heatwave with temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees! With all this glorious weather, everyone needs a place to keep cool so here are some fun ideas for summer holidays in Wiltshire.
Grab your bucket and spade with a deckchair in tow and head to Swindon’s urban beach. From 25-29 August they will be hosting special events each day including beach fitness, donkey rides, live music and dance and soft volleyball tasters turning Swindon into Spain!
Just over the Wiltshire border, Cotswolds Water Park have an array of exciting watersports to get stuck into. Have a go at paddleboarding, canoeing, wakeboarding and sailing, or simply relax on the lakeside beach. You’re guaranteed to have a good time with lots of laughter so grab your friends and prepare to get wet. However, if you just fancy a swim, there’s an open-air swimming pool located in Tisbury.
Langford Lakes, a Wiltshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve, is great for birdwatching, catch and release fishing and for something a little bit special, keep your eye out for otters and water voles which have been spotted in the area!
Drift down the Kennet and Avon Canal on a relaxing boat trip with Barbara McLellan Canal Boat. Take in the views on a sunny day whilst the gentle breeze keeps you cool. After your trip, there are plenty of places to relax on the towpath for a cold drink or an ice-cream.
Stourhead offers fantastic spots for cooling down in the summer heat. From enchanting trees to characterful caves there’s plenty of places to explore. Enjoy a picnic and take on a challenge with their all new life size version of monopoly around the house and garden.
For all you foodies, a place next to a river is the perfect spot for a bite to eat during summer. Check out The Boat House at Bradford on Avon marina, The Old Mill at Harnham or The Marina Café at Devizes Marina Village. The Rowdey Cow Farm Café & Ice Cream Parlour is a must if you have a sweet tooth! Located in Rowde near Devizes, this place will get your taste buds tingling in this heatwave.
You could make a break of it and plan a stay to Wiltshire. There's plenty of cool camping places to stay such as Stonehenge Camping or Chalke Valley Camping. This way, you can make the most of the cool evenings and the crisp mornings.
