There’s nothing more refreshing than the arrival of spring! As colour and warmth come back into our lives, here are a few things you can get up to in Wiltshire to celebrate the beginnings of summer. With two bank holidays on Monday 7 May & Monday 28 May it’s a time to come together, get outdoors, enjoy al fresco dining, relax in one of our pubs beer gardens, and take in the peacefulness of Wiltshire's countryside.
May Events in Wiltshire
- From Friday 4 May to Friday 1 June the Salisbury Live event will be bringing you five weekends of live music across 20 venues in the city!
- If you’re a fan of all things automobiles then visit Bowood’s Classic Car & Motorcycle show on Sunday 6 May.
- You’re invited to the first event of its kind at Legacy Rose & Crown Hotel for their outdoor pop-up cinema event, indulge in tasty 3 course meal then sit back and relax.
Wiltshire May Sports events
- If you’re feeling inspired to get outside there is still time to sign up to the Sarsen Trail Neolithic Marathon and bike trail, during this testing run you will pass through incredible landscapes from the Vale of Pewsey, through the Avon Valley and across the wilds of Salisbury Plain.
- Experience an adrenaline rush at Castle Combe Circuit for May Day Madness Race Day, thrills and spills guaranteed!
Exhibitions in Wiltshire
- Longleat will have new unique residents at the Pop-up pandas art installation, each panda has been hand-crafted and painted meticulously, so as you wander around the safari park make sure to keep a look out for them.
- Learn about the legacy of Ela the founder of Lacock through installations, and sound at The foundation story of Lacock Abbey exhibition.
- Marking the centenary of the Royal Air Force, Boscombe Down Aviation Collection will have a special RAF centenary celebration exhibition.
- Join in with May Bank Holiday Fun at the Salisbury Museum, and watch a living history group bring World War II to life! Perfect for families.
Traditional Wiltshire Events
- Take part in Archery, Welly Wanging, Wheelbarrow Races and a farmyard fancy dress competition at the Country Fayre at Wooley Grange.
- Every year around the time of the Early May Bank Holiday the village of Downton comes alive with the Downton Cuckoo Fair. Here you can taste local food & drink, blow off some steam at the fairground and roam around the street stalls freely.
- Get together with family and friends and celebrate Spring in the Park in Warminster. At this action-packed May Day event, you can expect Morris & maypole dancers, craft stalls, a beer tent and barbecues!
- Visit Chippenham’s biggest annual event at the Folk Festival, a fantastic way to celebrate the bank holiday weekend with all the family.
