There will be plenty to see and do in Wiltshire over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (29 April – 1 May) including the following fantastic events:
1. Downton Cuckoo Fair
This annual fair takes place in the village of Downton, just 8 miles from Salisbury. The free event features maypole dancing, craft demonstrations, music and much more.
2. Join Downland Walking for a guided walk
Downland Walking will be running a ten mile circular walk taking in Old Sarum and the Woodford Valley on the Saturday.
3. Book your children onto a Mini Chef workshop
Vaughan’s Cookery School in Devizes will be running various cookery classes for Mini Chefs over the Bank Holiday weekend, including a Moroccan themed one.
4. Jump on the tractor rides at Roves Farm
Follow the story of the ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ at Roves Farm over the bank holiday weekend and learn about the lifecycle of butterflies along the way. There’s also the opportunity to make your own caterpillar in the craft area.
5. Check out the Motorcycle Show in Salisbury
Salisbury’s Market Place will be busy on the Sunday with the arrival of the Salisbury Motorcycle Group’s Spring Surprise Bike Show.
6. Watch a dawn chorus as part of the Swindon Festival of Literature
On Bank Holiday Monday, early risers can enjoy a dawn chorus at 5.30am at Lawn Woods marking the start of the 24th Swindon Festival of Literature. Pipers, singers, jugglers, poets and more will be there so why not join in and celebrate life and literature?
7. Browse the stalls at the Vintage Brocante
The Larmer Tree Gardens will be home to the Vintage Brocante on the Bank Holiday Monday. Browse over 30 vintage stalls featuring brocante, fabrics, gifts and more.
8. Enjoy spectacular colours at Bowood’s Woodland Gardens
Bowood’s Woodland Gardens are due to open from 28 April giving you the chance to see the colourful rhododendrons and the pretty bluebells.
