I am Marketing & Admin Offer at the museum, which means I have the pleasure of promoting The Salisbury Museum, planning and running the events we stage throughout the year, and welcoming group visitors to the museum. The museum is housed in The King’s House, which dates from the early 13th century. Part of my role is to look after this beautiful building, the site and the team. My background is in Economics and Fine Art, which is a very unlikely combination of interests, but strangely perfect for the job I do.
What do you like best about your role there?
My job involves meeting lots of amazing people – whether it is visitors, our volunteers or the incredible archaeologists, artists and experts who visit the museum. A recent highlight was the opportunity to meet Sir David Attenborough, when he came here to talk about the artist John Craxton earlier in the year. It is not often that you get the chance to meet a national treasure.
Where are your favourite places to visit in Wiltshire and why?
I moved to Salisbury just over three years ago, and have fallen in love with the city, so Salisbury is top of my places to visit in Wiltshire. Probably one of my favourite places in Salisbury is the Church of St Thomas and St Edmond. There are over 250 angels in the fabric of the building and it is a wonderful place to go and sit quietly and think, or even count angels.
Do you have any hidden Wiltshire gems that you’d like to share with our readers?
As someone who has only relatively recently moved to Wiltshire, one of my ‘gems’ can be found west Wiltshire, in the town of Bradford on Avon. It is the Church of St Laurence, which is one of the very few Anglo Saxon churches that survives in England. You do not need to be a fan of architecture or history, but to stand in this tiny church is to feel a direct link to the past and to find great peace.
Where’s your favourite Wiltshire picnic spot?
There is nothing like a picnic and one of my favourite places to picnic is by the side of the Kennet & Avon Canal in Bradford on Avon. It is a great place to watch the world go by.
Where are your favourite places to eat out in Wiltshire and why?
My husband is a wonderful cook, so we tend to eat at home. My favourite place to eat in Salisbury has to be Byron – the best French fries in town.
