You may not think of November as being a particularly interesting time to travel in the UK however you’d be wrong! There is a great variety of colourful events that are taking place in Wiltshire this November that can help brighten up the greyest of winter’s days.

1. Salisbury Christmas Market

Perfect for picking up some unique Christmas presents. The Salisbury Christmas Market takes place in the Guildhall Square from 24 November. Browse the delightful wooden chalets, sample some warming mulled wine and listen out for festive music.

2. Fireworks

Early November sees the Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes’ night celebrations take place across the county. See the Wiltshire skies lit up with fireworks at the various firework displays.

3. Start off your Christmas shopping

With some of the big high street names offering and designer brands offering up to 60% off the recommended retail price a trip to the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Swindon will help get some of those tricky-to-buy-for people’s presents. Younger visitors will enjoy the UK’s first Wall Holla and interactive Sona play area and the Hooter Express train.

4. Christmas Festival of Lights

Longleat will once more be illuminated with Chinese lanterns for their Festival of Lights event. This year there will be a Beatrix Potter theme – in celebration of her 150th anniversary.

Take part in a cookery masterclass with Michelin two-starred chef, Martin Burge at the Whatley Manor Hotel and Spa, near Malmesbury. A fantastic opportunity to learn from an award-winning professional in some beautiful surroundings.

6. A Georgian Christmas at Mompesson House

Mompesson House will be opening its doors on 26-27 November to celebrate a traditional Georgian Christmas. Explore some of the rooms and see how the families who lived at Mompesson during the Georgian era would have celebrated Christmas.

7. Reflection – last chance to catch the art exhibition at Salisbury Cathedral

Early November sees your last chance to catch Salisbury Cathedral’s ‘Reflection’ exhibition featuring sculpture and art installations from artists from across the globe.

8. Crisp walks along the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath

9. Tour the Ramsbury brewery, distillery and smokehouse

10. Enjoy some comedy at the Wyvern Theatre

Have a laugh on a visit to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre during November. Comedy acts due to visit include: Al Murray, Ross Noble, Jethro and Gervase Phinn.

    Lovely to see Salisbury mentioned here. As impressive as its cathedral is, in particular experiencing a moment gazing into the beautiful baptism pool, it's all the quirky nooks and crannies in the city that make it. Sadly, they are rarely mentioned.
