Stourhead gardens
One of the National Trust’s most iconic gardens, Stourhead truly comes to life during autumn with a rich array of colours from its vibrant reds through to rusty oranges. Pick a day with bright blue skies and you’ll find many a photographer or artist here capturing their perfect moment. The National Trust run a 'leaf line' each autumn where you can hear about which leaves are changing and what's worth looking out for.
Savernake Forest
Just south of Marlborough, the Savernake Forest, under the care of the Forestry Commission is filled with beech and oak trees, including the iconic Big Belly Oak.
The New Forest National Park
The Wiltshire villages of Landford and Nomansland sit within the National Park. See the New Forest ponies, pigs, donkeys and other animals in this colourful wildlife haven.
Bowood
The extensive parkland of Bowood is perfect for exploring in the autumn. Stroll around the tranquil lake designed by ‘Capability’ Brown, wander through the arboretum and explore the gardens named Garden of the Year 2014!
Longleat estate
Awash with colour in the autumn months, the Longleat estate makes a great base for an autumnal walk. Take in the peaceful location at Shearwater Lake or the stunning views from Heaven’s gate looking across the estate.
Lydiard Park
Lydiard Park is a stunning place to visit during autumn. The leaves change and the park is left with a fascinating array of colours from greens to yellows and reds to brown.
Of course we can’t leave out Westonbirt Arboretum which although is in Gloucestershire is just a short hop across the Wiltshire border.
