Arts and Culture – timeless pleasures to enjoy today
From international festivals to theatrical events and award-winning museums to independent galleries, Wiltshire is rich in both arts and culture.
The Wiltshire Music Centre, Bradford on Avon hosts regular concerts in its 300 seater hall attracting internationally renowned musicians including the City of London Sinfonia, jazz legend Courtney Pine and famous guitarist John Williams and during the summer months, enjoy the Iford Arts Festival set in the stunning Peto gardens at Iford Manor.
For two weeks in the summer, the International Street Festival and Carnival comes to Devizes. The festival includes a confetti battle and carnival parade as well as lots of street theatre.
Anyone with an eye for the arts should head to Fisherton Mill. Here lies a treasure trove of amazing artwork in the largest independent art gallery in the South West. See on-site artists in their studios and discover beautiful handmade cards and jewellery for sale.
Theatre is a big thing in Wiltshire. Salisbury Playhouse is one of the UK's leading producing theatres with a year-round programme of plays, musicals, pantomime and family entertainment, with an emphasis on original work that reflects the region. The Pound Arts Centre in Corsham run by the local charity Pound Arts and offers a wide variety of performances and their annual festivals, Blue Sky Festival & Magic and Mayhem Festival.
The Salisbury International Arts Festival takes place every summer. One-off theatrical events are often also held at the Salisbury Arts Centre throughout the year.
Across the county there’s the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon, the Arc Theatre in Trowbridge and the Athenaeum in Warminster as well as amateur theatre productions.
In the centre of Trwobridge, you'll find the lovingly restored Parade House which houses antiques and costume exhibitions, as well temporary gallery shows and luxury 24-seat cinema in the historic vaults of the house showing the best in classic and independent cinema each week.
