Two days out of London visiting Salisbury and Stonehenge by Train
Day One
Your journey begins, in London, catch the train from London Waterloo to Salisbury. The journey takes only an hour and a half.
When you arrive in the Wiltshire city of Salisbury, spend some time exploring the historic streets; it might not reach back in time quite as far as Stonehenge itself, but there are 800 years of fascinating history to see here! Enjoy lunch at one of the many eateries in the city.
After lunch join an organised tour of Salisbury Cathedral. The Chapter House contains the finest of four original 1215 Magna Carta manuscripts. Spend some time exploring the Cathedral Close, visiting any of the other attractions there: Salisbury Museum, The Rifles Museum or Mompesson House.
There are plenty of great places to stay in Salisbury ranging from city centre hotels and inns, friendly B&Bs and guest houses, to riverside locations and self-catering properties.
Day Two
Morning - From the medieval modern city of Salisbury hop aboard the Stonehenge Tour bus which offers a panoramic trip up to Stonehenge aboard a double decker bus. Hear the recorded audio commentary and learn more about the historic landscape as you approach the World Heritage Site.
The suggested visit time for groups at Stonehenge is two hours. Whilst here, pick up an audio guide giving you further history of the site (subject to availability).
Return to Salisbury via Old Sarum – an Iron Age hill fort that was the original site of Salisbury. See the ruins of the old cathedral and the Bishop’s palace before continuing your journey to the city to catch your train back to London.
