About
Join The Farrant Singers for their ever-popular Christmas Concert. This year we begin with Bach's wonderful D major setting of the Magnificat followed by a mix of choral Christmas music for choir together with audience carols.
The first half of the concert is a performance of J.S Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243, a musical setting of the biblical canticle Magnificat, the words that the Virgin Mary spoke when the Angel Gabriel told her that she was to bear a child.
It is scored for five vocal parts (two sopranos, alto, tenor and bass), and a Baroque orchestra including trumpets. It is the first major liturgical composition on a Latin text by Bach.
We are being joined by fine soloists who have close links to Salisbury - Caroline Halls, Abigail Hooper, Jonathan Woodhouse, Nicholas Hawker and William Drakett as well as The Farrant Orchestra led by Daphne Moody. The organist is Simon Dinsdale and, of course, Philip Lawson is
conducting
