What's On in Salisbury
As a city, Salisbury embraces the arts in the broadest sense with first-class venues offering quality entertainment throughout the year, from drama and dance to exhibitions and lectures. Salisbury is fortunate to enjoy a wide range of musical events, from classical recitals to jazz bands, folk singers to pop groups.
Festivals and cultural events in Salisbury
One of the major cultural events to take place in Salisbury is the Salisbury International Arts Festival which brings with it a host of classical concerts, performances, theatre and participatory events each year with a different theme from across the globe.
Salisbury is also home to the Playhouse which offers an exciting programme of quality performances as well as the Salisbury Arts Centre and the City Hall with a year-round entertainment programme. On the outskirts of the city is the Studio Theatre, home to amateur theatre productions.
Regular exhibitions take place at various venues across the city including: The Salisbury Museum, Young Gallery, Fisherton Mill, Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury Arts Centre and Mompesson House.
Crafts, food fayres and markets
Within the Cathedral Close the Salisbury Contemporary Craft and Heritage Festival is held annually and during a week in September the Salisbury Food & Drink Festival comes to the city with the highly popular food and drink market on the final day.
Salisbury has held a market charter since medieval times and the Market Place still comes to life each Tuesday and Saturday (except the third Tuesday in October). Browse the stalls for local produce, clothing, hardware, fruit and veg and lots more. Keep an eye out for additional markets including the ever-popular French market, Vintage markets and Artisan markets all held within the Market Place.
Family events
There are plenty of events to keep the family entertained, with a wide programme of theatre at both Salisbury Playhouse and Salisbury Arts Centre, craft and hands-on history sessions at both Salisbury Museum and Salisbury Cathedral and the opportunity to meet Romans, Normans or watch jousting knights at Old Sarum.
If you love all things ghostly then join Salisbury City Guides for one of their Ghost Walks (held on Friday evenings during the summer) or for the Spooky Spectacular over Halloween.
One-off events
Look out for one-off events which take place in and around the city and keep checking back as event are regularly added to our site.
