About
The Bradford on Avon Choral Society is delighted to be returning to the Wiltshire Music Centre on Saturday 20th May 2023 at 7.30pm to perform one of Mendelssohn's most popular oratorios, Elijah. It is a dramatic telling of the story of the prophet Elijah: living through famine and drought, bringing the dead to life, defeating the prophets of Baal and being carried by a fiery chariot in a whirlwind to heaven. The music demands a full symphony orchestra which will be led by Simon Kodurand, Artistic Director of the Bristol Ensemble, and equally at home on both the modern and baroque violin. The title role of Elijah will be sung by Niall Hoskin, bass, who has sung a number of times with the choir and has a wide range of solo performances from Macbeth and Don Giovanni to recital and concert works. The choir, made up of around 70 voices, has been rehearsing under the baton of their Director of Music, Alan Burgess, who will conducting the performance. Alan grew up in the 'land of song'(Wales) and read music at Edinburgh University, where he furthered his love of choral music. He has taught music in a range of schools and now directs several choirs locally. He has directed Bradford Choral since autumn 2018.
