William Shakespeare's As You Like It
Adapted and directed by Matilda Dickinson
We that are true lovers run into strange capers.
The good Duke has been exiled by his (not so good) twin brother. Now their daughters Rosalind and Celia must escape the court to seek a better life in the forest. They don't count on meeting the dashing Orlando, who steals Rosalind's heart! Or his dastardly brother Oliver, who steals Celia's heart! Or the feisty Phebe, who wants to steal the heart of the strapping young Rosalind – I mean Ganymede! Wait, I'm confused…
Acclaimed creators of experimental Shakespeare, Apricity Theatre, are bringing another adaptation to the stage. The company's past shows have included the '80s funfare of attitude and hip action', Between the Armies, and the 'powerful' The Breach, bringing modern twists to some of Shakespeare's most famous histories. Now, under the direction of Matilda Dickinson, they are tackling the comedies with this rollicking romp through the Forest of Arden.
With an all-women and -nonbinary cast, the adaptation is breathing joy, live original songs, and the celebration of human nature into this much-loved classic. The show has been a long time coming after the company started planning in February 2020. But with the added time spent refining and reimagining ideas of what the show could be, its return promises to be more exciting and more magical than ever, infused with the sense of togetherness we all need after the last few years.
Join us this July as we celebrate love, life, and human nature. The show will take place in the magical setting of Trowbridge Town Hall's Sensory Garden so pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and prepare for the party of the summer!
